From the Air

Someone says it is but
you think it is not and
that it must be somewhere
else, somewhere to the north
or to the south; yes,
to the south, not the actual

center. Some say the new
but I don't see it. I still
see it the way it was before
this. And I say a few words
then, often as not about the trees
and how we take care to water

them. Who will listen? I say,
picture a cab moving up the street.
I will look -- if today will be my last
day, if today must be my last -- I will
see something: a bird on a branch or
a clock -- the cars, the planes

and a bridge.
